Frozen in the Andes

I left the Friday morning with Ciro, one of the PRISMA consultants, to the little community of Maco. We went on motorcycle because at least half of the 3-hour round trip was on a rough dirt road. That morning a truck had leaked oil on the highway, and the dirt bike flew out from under us around a turn. But luckily neither of us was hurt badly. I just got a little road rash on my leg. And yes Mom, I was wearing a helmet. I was most upset about the hole in my nice jeans. Oh well… it'll remind me of Peru at least. And I didn’t even think twice about my leg afterwards because it was so dang cold. I froze even with my green down jacket and two other layers on underneath. As we reached the summit, there was frost everywhere on the ground. It gets really cold here, especially in the early mornings before the sun gets up (I’d say it’s in the 30s- maybe even the high 20s). I saw two wild llamas on the ride to Maco as well. So cool! At least the 4 ½ hours on the moto to Maco wasn’t all in vane. We found three of the four clients we were supposed to interview.
